Those of you who listen to the news have probably heard about this, but if not click here to get up to date.
Essentially a group of eight year old were attending a minor hockey tourney in Ontario, it was down to the end of the game and a fight broke out. The fight turned into both teams out on the ice dropping the gloves.
People are pointing fingers at the coaches of the two teams, however i feel that a discouraging look should be directed at the parents of these kids as well. Parents put the kids in these leagues at such a young age in attempts to get a head start on the competition. Yes being a parent involves you wanting you child to achieve their highest potential, but kids have to be kids too, no reason at all for parents who have youth under the age of 12 to be looking at what needs to be done for their boy to be the next NHL superstar. There is no reason what so ever for an eight year old to be playing with this level of intensity, being a kid in sport is about the fun, experiencing teamwork and joy for the game at no time should a fight on ice ensue.
tsk tsk tsk, that would be the last thing I would want my boy doing or experiencing at 8 years old. Parents have to be parents and stop trying to be the best
…. thats my two cents, Let me know what you think.
