hahha,

last post April 26th, so as you can guess May was stupidly busy for Tammy and I. Being summer and all I am usually out enjoying the many outdoor activities the Yukon has to offer, however this year has been quite wet. In fact I had plans to do some reckless biking down Haeckle Hill today, but Mother Nature had other plans. So here I am updating our blog.

For about a week now we have been able to settle down, and enjoy our new home. We are all moved in but still have to add our little touches to many of the rooms…not to mention buy some furniture. I have posted some photos on our flickr site so feel free to check them out.

News from the north, My Dad who had planned to retire in December has changed his plans. To become Bishop one has to be elected, the first weekend of June the church held elections to fill the position and after seven attempts the group was unable to get out of a deadlock. So my Dad did what he does and prayed about the situation and with the support from many church and community members he has decided not to retire and stay as Arch Bishop of B.C and Yukon for a bit longer. At least until a individual can be successfully voted in. This is good news for him and my mom, cause I think neither of them were really ready to step down and not to mention settle down.

Other than that things are going well, hopefully the weather will clear for me to participate in some adventures then I will definatley have something to write about.

Oh yeah… YEAH BOSTON!!!!! …Ray Allen’s my man!! Celtics rock!

It has been awhile since we have updated our post so here it is;

last weekend Kirk, Kurt and I headed out to the summit for a day in the snow,

It promised to be lots of fun until I crashed and concussed myself. I wish I had pictures of it, from my perspective it  kind of felt like I was doing a no handed handstand.. I swear I heard every vertebrae in my neck crack.

Needless to say after that I sat out the afternoon. Who knew that snow could be so hard? and sharp … it was surprisingly sharp.

anyways, that evening we headed down to Skagway, Alaska to spend the night. Not much was open seeing as the tourist season isnt quite upon us. But we were able to find some decent nachos for dinner, and luckily Kirk had his camper on so we just pulled over in a turn-out to camp.

The next day we headed out into the ocean for a paddle, the water was awesome and I started this season out pretty good seeing as I didn’t tip over (last season I think I was 10 capsizes for 15 trips).

I don’t know where else you can get your last few runs of the season in and then your first paddle of the season all in the same weekend.

Pretty Cool.

Why aren’t all birthdays this fun?

Another event I am glad we didn’t miss.

yes, we are back in the good old Yukon. It was pretty tough leaving the big city, and landing this afternoon seeing all the snow made it alot harder. I don’t know what I was thinking, hoping that it would be melted…set myself up for disappointment big time. I have never been one for holding a strong connection to any particular place, but for some reason I just cant let go of Edmonton.

I have changed our main picture from our marriage ceremony photo to one of my man Dave Grohl rocking out (my apologies for the poor quality, it was taken with a cell phone). I am sure Tammy will understand. Cause it was THE best show ever!!! so glad I picked up tickets and flew down for it, if you ever get a chance go see them cause they are goooood. Tammy made me change my Foo Fighters shirt after four days in a row, something about a funky smell. I don’t know, I thought I smelled fine.

It was nice to see all our friends and family; short ones, tall ones, big ones and the little ones who I must say are growing fast…almost too fast. Seems that Uncle Jonny isn’t that cool after you hit 1 year old. I guess they are too mature for me or something. ha ha. It actually surprised me (in hindsight) how much visiting we stuffed into a week. Next time it will be longer, definitely!

It is officially 60 days until Tammy and I move into our new place, Shopping sprees to furnish the house have begun. Good thing we are workaholics cause Tammy has some expensive taste in furniture. And of course we now have room for visitors, so I better start hearing from you guys regarding summer plans, etc.

that is about all I got for now, again it was great seeing everyone and be sure to keep in touch yo.

It is official,

Tammy and I are homeowners!! Move in date is May 31, and we are so very excited for our lives and family to grow in A HOME OF OUR OWN.

Here are pictures from the Real Estate Listing so you guys can have a look. We will be showing Mom and Dad Buckle the place within the week so I will post pictures of the whole house then.

I say, working nights you see some strange things.

… lazy buggers!

I can handle farts…I mean it is a natural occurrence, everyone does it. If it stinks, leave the area and wait for it to move on or just hold your breath…no big deal. As the individual passing the gas, be respectful; you know you stink get up and do it else where, if they are not pungent …let er rip.

However I had never experienced something as gross as what happened to me this morning let me tell you…..

I hit the CGC every morning after work to get my workout in, usually the place is pretty dead, however this time around the “wellness center” was quite full.

I do my thing with the weights, etc…Then jump on the treadmill for a half hour of what only can be described as mayhem. (ever see a 300lb dude run at 8.0 for 20 minutes you would call it mayhem too.)

Anyways,

All but one of the treadmills were full so I got up and started my routine, tight quarters but no biggie. People started finishing and dying off and by 20 minutes in it was just me and this other dude directly beside me left. I was getting pretty tired and almost contemplating ending my run early, but stubbornness (and a good tune on my ipod) allowed me to keep on keeping on.

Then all of a sudden it came…it wasn’t so bad at first, but then like a wall of stink it hit me. I kept running but had to look around to see if it was a walk by farting or if the guy next to me really had the audacity to pass one off when he knew damn well I had no where to go.

It was just me and him, no one else around and I knew I didn’t let ‘er out, I gave a quick glance in his direction and he wouldn’t make eye contact. He just kept looking straight ahead…fully aware that he was busted and I wasn’t happy. I looked down at his treadmill just to make sure he didn’t drop his guts in the process and I might be required to call for first aid.

It hung around forever and there was no way I was getting off of the treadmill cause I knew I would not be able to get back on to finish my full 30 minutes or 3 miles (whatever came first). I tried to speed up, in what I can only reason to be an attempt to outrun the stench, I didn’t calculate the fact that I was on a treadmill and therefore in a stationary position. Wasn’t actually moving anywhere stupid!

Then I tried to breath out heavier to try and push the fumes away (air circulation is lacking at the CGC-no fans) but that only resulted in me taking in bigger breaths and inhaling the toxic nasty even more.

I almost vomited, actually I think I puked a little in my mouth.

Thank God the smell passed, I stepped it up ensuring I would be done my time before the guy could brew up another one, got off the treadmill and moved to the farthest corner possible and began working myself through the trauma. This pretty much consisted of me sitting down in the fetal position and rocking back and forth.

I tell you, I don’t wish this on anyone…ever. And from now on the treadmill fart will be on my top list of worst things that can ever be done to another human being.

Shift work, I must say sucks the biggun’ however when your days off land on the warmest weather we have seen to date I am not going to complain.

It has been absolutely awesome up here and makes me wonder what would cause someone to move away, but then I head back to work and realize quite quickly. hahah…nah just kidding its all good.

Looks like I will be heading to Edmonton solo at the end of March. If Tammy gets to go down at all she will be going straight to Medicine Hat in early April for a day or two then straight back to work. 

Hopefully we will be heading out to the cabin and possibly I will get in some back country runs up at the summit… weather pending (fingers crossed). New pictures will be posted on flikr within the next couple days, nuptials and the typical outdoor fun will be the themes of the week.

Mount Sima Closed for the Season

The Board of Directors for the Great Northern Ski Society are very sad to announce that the Mt. Sima ski facility will not be re-opening this season. This tough decision is in the best interest of the hill, the user groups, the staff and the public. Safety is the number one concern at the hill and the Board and staff have tried exhaustively to address many issues that would ensure the safe operation of the hill, but they are unable to finish all the work required to open, this season.

The Great Northern Ski Society is a non-profit organization and has used all of the limited resources available to try to address the variety of issues that have surfaced this year at Mt. Sima. At this point, proceeding is not practical or feasible. The lack of natural snow was the initial problem faced, and subsequent issues with the snow-making system, break-downs and equipment failure on the T-Bar compounded the challenges this year. Some of the problems have been caused by nature, while many of the maintenance issues have arisen because of a lack of consistent staffing over the years, and the limited resources available to a non-profit organization that is running a big business. This season’s issues are a culmination of a number of years’ problems, all coming to a head this season.

Mt. Sima and the Great Northern Ski Society will spend the rest of the winter doing a proper closure of the facility, addressing financial issues, and planning for a new season next year that will ensure safe equipment, staffing stability, operation/maintenance reviews, future planning, and making certain that all the partners are involved and satisfied with the way Mount Sima moves forward.

Ernie Berken, President would like to assure season pass holders and people who have bought punch cards and ski packages this season, that the Board will be looking at options for reimbursement, validating passes from this year for next, and other concerns of the membership in the next 30 days. The membership and the public will be notified as soon as all the options are reviewed and approved by the Board.

The Board is asking for patience and understanding from the community until they can properly close the facility and then have time to deal with all the financial and technical issues there are. The board would like to thank Gary McWaters, his staff, Sportslife and it’s staff, the GNSS membership, Canadian Ski Patrol System Yukon Zone, the user groups, businesses (especially our suppliers), and the Whitehorse community for their efforts and support in the past, now and in the future as Mt. Sima prepares for a new start next season. The City of Whitehorse and the Yukon Government have been involved in the discussions and decisions so far and the society is looking forward to a strong working relationship with both levels of government into the future.

Mt. Sima belongs to the community and it will take the full support of the community to see it operate successfully into the future. Please refer all inquiries to 668-4557 .
